What would do this to a brooding wild duck? It happened between 12am - 7am.

There was this watery poop over two walls of our courtyard, the day before the duck was killed and the morning I found her dead. It may be a coincidence, but I would think maybe it is related. I don't think the poop was from her because I only saw it two times in all the time she was there and it seemed like from a bigger bird and only happened at night.

Never saw any bird except her, and her mate, during the day. Heard an owl nearby, but I live behind a duck pond and I've never seen another dead duck. All the eggs were left and she was found face up a bit away from the nest. It was raining that night too, so I wouldn't think too many things would be hunting and our courtyard only has a walkway and open to above, so I'm surprised something even found her. She was very well hidden, even I had a hard time seeing her. Unless she was killed coming back to the nest.

Can you tell what got her from her wounds? I'm sad and want to know. Does it look like a hawk or something with four legs, like a dog? I have no idea.

Is her mate searching for her? Maybe you should have left the corpse alone until her husband found her dead body and can move on.

I'm wondering if he was killed the day before she was. They are wild, so I only know I saw him one day. He might have intervened the first time. No idea. Haven't seen him since a couple days before she was killed.
