X2!!!

Wow, what a story this is... what a reminder to look closely and make sure we really can see what is going on. And, eeeewwwww

that's gross!

Be careful with Tylan, it can cause tissue damage, especially in the stronger version May want to use something different for rinsing out the wound if it's needed again. And here I though screw worms were the grossest thing on the planet! YUCK!

I'm maybe overly cautious, but am thinking I would keep his diet as digestible as possible for another week or two. Maybe grind up the safflower seeds or wait on those and the cracked corn? I dunno, you know your bird best. There's high protein game bird feeds -- sometimes you can find 28% even -- or you could add some catfood to bump up the protein. May not need the medicated version of the chick starter, that's from amprolium, to head off cocci, which is probably not the issue at the moment.

Thanks for the tube feeding suggestion should all go to @casportpony -- she's the one who has taught the whole peafowl forum, and a substantial part of the chicken universe -- about tube feeding and supportive care.

So, so, so glad you found that grossness and your bird is better

Quote: I thought about cat food too. I will add that tonight along with some higher protein crumble. Yes, yes, yes much thanks to @casportpony . I read her post and it guided me right through it. I made sure I felt the tube go down every time!!

@Garden Peas , can you elaborate on your ovation comment?

Sigh. See my thread on the split lower beak? My own fault, from failing to notice top beak needed trimming. But found just the most amazing avian vet ever, and Peanut will be fine. I'll update my thread in a little bit, don't want to hijack this one.

But to the point, even though I try to watch my birds very closely and really study them rather than just glance in the pen, I totally missed the fact that at least two of them need beak trims. And even though Peanut's wasn't that overgrown, it split his lower beak, which could have been really serious. So that was my personal reminder today to look carefully and not assume what I was seeing was okay...

@bockbock2008 , you've done a totally outstanding job with this bird, yaay for you!

For anyone wondering, he is still alive and continues to improve. We did take 1 step back and crop feed him at night again because he started going downhill again 2 days after I stopped. He is much more active now and the left eye is no longer cloudy
