I have a chain link area about about 15' by 20' with another 12' by 12' area under complete shade for the duck house.
I have a 155 gal poly tub with a bottom drain we plan to dig into the ground with only 6" above ground, and hook up a pump to the drain hose for cleaning. I wanted to put sod in the 15' x 20' area for the ducks, as any I've seen have been on grass. We are near Phoenix, AZ. Can any of you that have been raising ducks advise if this is a good idea for healthy ducks? Most of the grasses here are the trailing kind, like Bermuda, Tifgreen, or Midiron. Those can all be over-seeded with Rye, where St. Augustine can't.
I thought it might reduce the "mud" though I'll want some as the ducks enjoy it so. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Never knew ducks had such a great personality!

I don't know about the culinary tastes of ducks they will eat their own poop if you give hem half a chance. But they do like nice thick green grass.
