Hello there,Hello everyone! My name is Jerin and I’m grateful to have found this caring and helpful community. Here’s a little about me, my chicks, and my family. Thanks for reading, please say hello!
(1) I am brand new to chickens, got my first ever day-old chicks last Thursday (4/29/21).
(2) & (3) I have 5 chicks: Barred Plymouth Rock (Willow), Lavender Orpington (Pearl), Salmon Faverolle (Winnie), Easter Egger (Lulu), and Sapphire Olive Egger (Chickzilla). My kids picked out and named the last two.
(4) This prompt was for favorite things about raising chickens... that’s hard for me to say because we’ve had a very stressful start and has made me a nervous wreck about it, mostly.
(5) Playing with my kids, reading, gardening. I’m starting many of our garden plants from seed this year for the first time!
(6) Have a husband, daughter who is 8 and son who is 6, and 2 dogs. The kids were so excited about this (but are now a little scared as well I think, unfortunately). I live in northern Indiana so please reach out if you’re nearby!! I would love some new friends!
(7) Bonus: I tried to do my research before getting our chicks, and would frequently find info on this site. I officially joined today because we’re only a few days in and I already needed some help/advice.
You'll need help and advice the whole way through... But at some point you'll find yourself giving it, too. It's a learning process that never stops and neither does the joy.
