I saw something similar to these on here and decided it was right for me. I've been using them for 2 weeks now and seem to be working well. I'm a firefighter and work 48hrs in so I check it before shift and still have food in when I get home. Which is good because my wife is kinda over the chickens now that they aren't little a fuzzy any more. Quick question I keep the extra food in a Home Depot bucket sealed out side. Should I look into food safe buckets or am I ok. It's still in the 25lbs bag just in a bucket??? Thoughts

That's very cool. Just a couple of questions.

1) What size pipe and fittings are you using?

2) I see the nipples at the bottom of the watering pipe. Do you have any air inlet at the top of the watering pipe? Or is it not needed?

3) On the feeding pipe, is that a hood I see? And if so, how did you do that?

Thanks for sharing.

So long as the current storage arrangement keeps water away from the food, you will be fine. Food grade buckets are for human food. You may have noticed that chickens eat dirt and many things off the ground.

Thanks all..
I wanna, I used 3in drain pipe it was cheaper than regular PVC the 90 fitting is also 3 in. It's gravity fed I've been using it 3 weeks now only one issue. That was that I got a clump. So I just stuck a dowel in and it started dropping again. With my job I'm gone 48 hours and it works well for us. Yes it kind of a hood it's a PVC rain gutter adaptor (fr homedepot). I cut the bottom of the square andit keeps the food dry. We live on the coast.
The waterer I do not have any holes in the top but I was planning to pull it out and drill a couple just under the top white cap..

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Or if you'd like close up pictures let me know

Thanks for looking
Aloha

Ditto..and might be good to keep feed in a tight metal container as rodents will chew thru plastic to get at feed.
