Hi folks…..have a question….I have a female Sussex about two years old…she’s always been your normal beautiful Sussex color……UNTIL, just recently I noticed she has “gray feathers” on her chest….don’t mean to pick favorites but her name is “big Betty” and ya she’s been special to me….is there a concern here ? Thanks for the help

It is common for them to have gray on the fluffy part of the feather near the skin. You can go spread her feathers apart and look, and you will probably find it all over her body, and on the others as well.

It's just showing now because the outer layer of feathers have gaps. Molting is the most likely explanation at this time of year.

I don't think it is anything to worry about.
