I'd plant some herbs with the grass too, especially thyme, oregano, and mint. Thyme and oregano are good antibacterials and ingesting them will just generally be good for the chickens, mint will help the run smell better. Mint would also be a good choice because it is difficult to kill and probably not super attractive to the chickens for eating because it's so aromatic, so they will be less likely to completely demolish it.
