The automakers made money on cars made and sold overseas, but lost it on the domestic market. It is not just the US; Volvo is owned by the Chinese Chery now, Range Rover is owned by Tatra the Indian automaker.
As the US and Canadian governments sell off their holdings in GM, you have to wonder who is buying their stock? When the unmitigated greed of labor unions make an industry unprofitable, the company gets sold off. Foreign investors do not buy companies to deal with truculent unions and never ending government regulation. No, they buy companies to make money and provide employment for their own people. Expect to see a massive movement of machinery, technology and patents.
When China gets it's hands on GM, they will inherit a bonanza of defense information. I expect they will knock of our tanks and submarines.
This worries me. And the people in the congress were warned, and yet they hung on to their addiction to spending. Laissez les bons temps rouler. They don't realize that the dance is over and the band wants to be paid.
