The goal of liberalism is uniform poverty? Really? Do some studying of history. Take a good look at the 1800's when the industrial giants had their way. Then you can get a good look at uniform poverty.Sweat shops and child labor were the norm. And contrary to what you think, liberalism has nothing to do with communism. You have the two confused.

It seems that there is nothing as pervasive and all enduring as a bad idea. You are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine. Socialism and communism are both sides of the same coin. Communism usually resulted as the product of revolution; socialism on the other hand is a product of social evolution.

The end result is pretty much the same, a state run economy and diminished personal liberty. Read the writing on the walls. "Socialismo, el mundo nuevo" pretty much tells us that they are the same. The slogans tell the truth.

I wish you well in your journey to the world of milk and honey. Be prepared to abdicate the right to make a lot of personal decisions for yourself. Those things will be decided by the party elite that think they know better than you.

Never mind my "opinions". Just spend some time yourself in the library studying social conditions of the 1800's and early 1900's. See what you can find out about wages and working conditions including the number of hours in a work day, the number of days in a work week, and what happened to a man's family if he was killed or injured on the job. While you are at it check out child labor and work houses.

Soon this country will only have one political party with "their" agenda to shove down our throats.With our constitutional rights being diminished each day and the govt spying on each and everyone of us using whatever means possible,,do you not yet see the writing on the wall? Controlling the media and slowly "conditioning" the American people into believing everything they are told. Thru false intelligence reports,we as a nation were conditioned to think Sadamn Hussein had weapons of mass destruction,,which was the start of our huge ongoing national debt we now have and will never pay off. I personally could care less what that little tyrant did within his eutopia of a world,thousands of miles away. Dictatorships has risen and fallen all throughout history,country by country. But the beliefs our Govt now has and enforces here at home now thru Homeland Security,the TSA at airports,intercepting e-mails and tracking citizens thru their cell phone usage,computer communications,social media websites,is overstepping individual rights to privacy imho.
Too much of our population is dependant on govt handouts-freebies in one form or another.The best new tactic is the cell phones that low income familes are eligible for now,advertised on tv. I bet each one of those is cell phones is tracked too.Just like On-Star in your car,just another way for someone else to keep tabs on you.Big Brother has gotten more like a fat-obese nozy pig the past few years.

Cassie, I am well aware of the conditions prevailing during the period of industrialization. Those conditions still prevail in the sweat shops of China, Viet Nam and North Korea, socialist countries all.

We live in the here and now, not the then and there. Be careful what you wish for; I suspect when you get it you will not like it.

I don't think we are communicating. I am not wishing for anything. Just for the record, the communism practiced in the countries you mentioned is communism in name only. And no I don't want to live under a communist government. Communism doesn't work, at least not on a large scale. I was surprised to learn that on a small scale it can. I once heard from a BYC member who lives in a commune in Israel who told me the brand of communism practiced in her commune works very well. You said that the goal of liberals was poverty for all. Not true. Quite the opposite. By the way, the communist governments you mentioned have a lot more in common with the industrialists of our past than with any liberal I have ever met. And a liberal in those countries would have a very short lifespan. Very short indeed.

Does not matter what you call it, Socialist ideas only work in close communities where everyone cares about the next. It has to be small groups that everyone has chosen to be there to help each other. In the real world though, when you punish success an reward lack of success you make people want to do less.

We just had thanksgiving an most people don't even know the real story behind it.
The Pilgrims had this great idea that everyone would work to build a great community an everyone would get equal reward. Everyone got equal no matter what an it did not take long before most of the community figured out they could lay out of work an the others would still feed them. That was until the lack of willing workers kept them from producing enough food costing lives. The rules were then changed. Everyone had to work to eat. People that worked more got more. Cause of that change people worked hard that second season.



Governments only roll should be to protect the rights of men. I have a right to not be maimed or murdered. I have a right to the liberty to live my life as I see fit as long as I dont infringe infringe on those same rights someone else has.

I do not have a right to healthcare. Healthcare is a service that someone offers. Government run healthcare infringes on the providers rights by telling them who they have to provide for an for what payment. It also infringes on the people right to chose how they want to handle there healthcare. This is all under the lie that you have a right to someone else's services.

Same with minimum wage. I have no right to a minimum wage. I have a right to choose what I am willing to work for. I also have a right to choose what I am willing to pay someone to work for me. Minimum wage infringes on those rights under the lie that it is protecting a fake right to work for at least a minimum wage.

Free market will handle wages. If someone will do a job for $2 an hour that is all that job is worthy. If it is worth more the pay will go up until it is high enough to attract a worker.

As for working conditions? Civil courts do a better job of fixing those than laws do. Government inspectors are a joke but no one laughs at the idea of a visit from a lawyer...

Cassie, the goals of socialism are altruistic, but when applied, the realities of life intervene. The system may work in religious communes such as the Shakers, but when applied in the general population it falls down. We are people, not ants and bees.

Perhaps I should have said that the end result is uniform poverty rather than the goal of the system.

Rebel, it will be interesting to see what will occur when and if the fast food workers get their $15 dollar an hour wage. I suspect we will see a return to the brown bag lunch. I am already priced out of the fast food menu.

Originally the system was designed to employee young kids still in school. Now, at least in my area, the industry is manned by immigrants. They typically work 30 hours a week in one job, and then another 30 hours in another job. I am not sure how this will all turn out. Once someone is priced out of McDonalds or Jack in the Box, it doesn't matter how high the product is priced.

I guess we will find out soon.

Yea, I cant afford the pay cut that a raise in minimum wage woulds cause me. I am all ready priced out of eating at Taco-bell. I can still eat at a few of the pizza places every now an then an I survived taking the kids to McDonald's the other day but I cant afford much more.

I know the locals can not afford to lose there jobs. Burger King an Food Lion both have went out of business here. A raise of minimum wage to $15 an hour would put almost everyone in this part of the state out of business.. My brother would still have a job but everyone else I know would have to close there businesses or lose their jobs cause those places closed. Obamacare may have already did that though. I know it forced a lot of doctors out an the local tax place says he cant afford it so is going to close.
