5 months old now. Always bites when trying to pet him. Not necessarily hard, but where most dogs would lick he opens his mouth and chomps down on my hand. Suggestions?

Have you tried saying a loud, quick "OUCH!" or ""NO!"? That may stop him. If not, I'd put him on a leash and any time he goes to bite I'd give give a quick pop and a firm no.

Is this new? Is it only when you touch a specific spot?

It might just be normal puppy mouthiness (don't forget he is extremely young), in which case I would redirect or simply pause/stop the interaction when he starts. But it might be his way of telling you he doesn't like it or it is uncomfortable for him. The behaviour itself is not a bad thing, it shows he does not intend to hurt you. You don't want him to feel the need to escalate it to a proper bite

It’s been this way since I got him at 6 weeks. It’s not all of the time. When I’m walking he will jump up at my hand or if I try to pet him. Still cant let him around my daughter. Sometimes he lets me pet him and he does great walking around the farm. It’s just daily at certain times. No specific activities

Sounds like its probably normal puppy mouthiness then. Like with children puppies explore the world with their mouths, it's also how they play and a common behaviour when excited or overtired, so it is a completely normal behaviour. Keep interacting with him, try to redirect him to something else if you can and pause or stop the interaction when it gets too much. A "ouch" or any word you want, it just has to be consistent, when he bites will help him work it out

You can also use food to keep the mouth busy while touching him, so he gets into the routine of not biting every time

It's important to remember he is still extremely young, his brain isn't even fully developed yet. Most dogs outgrow the mouthing and he still has plenty of time! It would also be good to remember that 6 weeks is very young for a puppy to leave it's family. The generally learn about biting, whats too hard, when you should stop, and other important social cues from their siblings and mother, so if you got him at 6 weeks he would be missing 2 weeks of learning important social behaviours which will add to the difficulty

This is Chloe (& the little is Daisy). She is not a guardian dog due to the fact she is afraid of everything. 😆
She has protected the chickens from a frog though & once sniffed an opossum.
They’re such a gentle breed. 🥰
