Great Rejoicing and Coop design questions- long

I think I wasn't understanding how you were placing the doors. It sounds like to me the double doors, making a 6 ft opening, would make for pretty easy access. Re your roosts, a ft per bird is considered about average, I think. So that should work.
Sounds like your plan is a good one.
Is your dad interested in the birds, or helping with them, or just helping to convince your Mom to do it all? LOL How far do you live from your folks farm?

It's like this...Mom and her unmarried twin sister (they are 71) are running a ranch (the one they grew up on) and are responsible for feeding (mainly in winter),keeping track of the cows as they deliver and spraying for noxious weeds etc. (reclaim the grazing areas). Daddy is building a home for my aunt who is currently living in the >100 year old ranch house...the wiring is old, the house is drafty and not air conditioned (dreadful in South Texas) and can't take on the building of a coop or the care of chickens until after the job is done. He has built the garage and now has the foundation and trusses made for the main house. He is currently working on wall sections. When they are done he will call in his friends from town and they will have a house raising (a la Amish style). He figures he will be occupied with the house for the better part of a year--depending on outside help. Until then my dear Mom will have the care of the chickens (if we are successful in persuading her). If she puts her foot down, then I guess the only thing to do is wait until next year...But you know how addictions go...I must have it NOW!!!
