LOL, I have the BRAVE CHICKEN too! I call her the problem solver! Shes always the first to figure out something new while the others pace and yell.

we bought one of those bird-feeders that have a spike upright in a kind of pan-thing --

dh drills thru cabbage, 'spikes' it on the feeder and then hangs it in the pen -- a kind of 'tether-ball' effect --

the first time the chickens saw this I feared for their lives as they flung themselves against the wire and climbed on top of each other trying to get into their house -- screeching like jungle animals -- thank goodness there are only 7 of them --

we took the cabbage OFF the swinging feeder and they still acted as if it were a gift from Satan -- and these hens have had cabbage from the time they were baby chicks --

it took several days before Eleanor (the leader) decided that it was a 'good thing' and now they are annoyed if there is no 'tether-cabbage' --

I have not done purple, but did through a head of napa in there. It was devoured.

Mine were afraid of corn on the cob, acted like it was going to kill them

Ive given my chickens atleast 6 green cabbages, never with any problems, they like it....WELL....I threw a purple cabbage in the run and it was like I threw a live mongoose in there....Ive never heard so much noise from them....they were flapping around, losing feathers, and huddling in the corner till i took it away......I chopped it up small and gave it back to them....

same comotion, eventually they began to carefully eat it as though it were about to attack......and then it made all thier poop BLUE!

Has anybody else noticed chickens scared of purple things?

Oh yes..we hung it from the top as we had done with the green cabbage..they freaked out and ran to the corner..I even put treats under it and they would never eat them. No one laid eggs that day lol
purple must be evil..
