Green Club

Got the greenhouse cover changed yesterday. A miracle occurred - not a single plant was harmed in the changing of the cover! Both of the kids helped, so much in fact, that I wondered how in the world we'd gotten the job done without them. Somehow, we messed up the order, and the new cover is a bit short on the sides - but, the skirt boards on the sides need replacing anyway, adjustments can be made, it can be made to work. Good thing, 'cause as I said before, that stuff ain't cheap!

And today's DD's birthday. She has requested that I make her a cake (as opposed to buying one) so I'd better get bakin"!

Hopefully, Hubby made an important "note to self" last night. Seems he had put a bunch of pine branches and whatnot in the wood stove in the greenhouse quite some time ago, and left them there. Over the warm months, they apparently have "baked to a crackly crunch." Since we were headed into the 30's for the first time last night, he decided it was time to fire that rascal up. Got it going, no problems, went into the house. Went back out a bit later to see how it was doing. The top of the stove was glowing orange, the flue pipe was glowing orange, the temperature in the greenhouse was 80+ degrees and the exhaust fan was running!

Oops! He closed the dampers, moved a few plants that he was afraid might fry, and checked the plastic near the stove - all fine, which is really good news, since we just replaced it. He opened the door to make the fan's job easier (we only want it about 65 in there at this stage of the growing process). Interesting to know that the stove can now raise the temperature in the greenhouse a good 40 degrees, but I don't really think he wants to risk a meltdown to do it!
