Hi everyone

I think this could be a very interesting cross...

Buff Araucana rooster x Light Sussex hen

Could you try and answer these questions about the above cross...

How many eggs?
Appearance?
Hardy?
Green egg?

Thanks Ian

How many eggs?
Egg laying is a trait inherited from both parents. You can get a good idea what the hen will contribute by seeing what she leaves in the nest. Since a rooster does not lay eggs it’s harder but how many eggs did the rooster’s mother and his grandmothers lay? The pullets from that cross should lay somewhere in that area.

Appearance?
Yes, they will be red sex links. The makes will be black and white barred, maybe with some red leakage. The black barred may be all over the body but I’d think it would more likely be restricted to the tail and neck, much like the Light Sussex hen. The pullets will be buff colored, probably with black tail and neck.

Hardy?
Should be as hardy as the parents.

Green egg?
Yes, should be. The exact shade should be interesting but definitely green.

Thanks ridge runner. Anyone else got any information on this cross?
