Green Eggs or Brown?

I hatched and purchased some Americauna pullets. The pullets that I hatched are about 22 weeks old. I'm assuming that since they hatched from green eggs, they will lay green eggs. Is that true? When should I expect them to start laying, my other pullets the same age are laying now.

The offspring could lay green, brown or tented eggs. I do not know the genetics of the parents or the father of the offspring, so I have to go with the possibilities.

You can cross a purebred blue egg laying bird with a rooster that has the genetics for a brown egg and you will get a green egg layer (hen). This hen can then produce offspring that will lay brown eggs and or offspring that will lay green eggs. You will not get blue eggs from her because she carries some brown egg shell genes.

Did you get your ameraucana from a breeder or a hatchery?

Some birds will take up to 7 months to mature and lay an egg. It has been my experience that they will lay large eggs when they do start laying. The earlier a bird starts to lay eggs the smaller the eggs will be. The later a bird lays the larger the eggs will be when they start to lay.

Thanks! I purchased the eggs that I hatched from a breeder. The chick where purchased from Ideal. I guess it will be a draw of straws as to what I get.
