I purchased a small flock of Jill Rees's line of Cream Legbars last Spring from Greenfire Farms.
I was sent an extra pullet. That was the nice part.
What I ended up with 6+ months later, is hens that lay olive green eggs, except 1. That 1 hen lays light green eggs. The egg size is gradually increasing - has gone from 40g to 50g. Yes, the eggs are as they say - squattier in appearance then usual eggs, but can hold as much weight.
All the flock has tremendously floppy combs.
They are ALL friendly, even the rooster poses no threat. I think he is beautiful - barely any chestnut on him, lots of black/white peppered coloring. His crow is not typical and it's not related to his age. He just crows UNlike a rooster.
The hens and roo hardly ever eat from the feeder, and prefer free ranging for food - a nice benefit of the breed.
Just a heads up - if you are interested in getting blue egg layers, I suggest you don't purchase from GFF since their line stems from UK whose standard for Cream Legbars include egg laying colors of blue, green, or olive. USA standards are blue egg layers. I did not do my research, and have thus been disappointed with my expensive flock since they didn't lay 1 blue egg (although their website still says they lay blue - light green, they forgot to mention olive) and I've actually sold off some hens. I have enough green egg layers for a lot less $'s and whose eggs are bigger.
There are a number of other USA Cream legbar breeders working on culling their flock so they only have blue egg layers. One may have a better chance of getting a blue egg layer through them versus GFF. Just a FYI
