from the San Diego High desert,

Rule of thumb is 4 square feet of space per bird in the coop or house.... one linear foot per bird roost space too. Then for the run ten square feet of space.

so for 200 chickens you need:
800 square feet of space or a house that is 20 x 40.
200 linear feet of roost space
one nest box for five to ten hens.... so if your 200 are all hens between 10 and 20 nest boxes
finally 2000 square feet of run space in the form of a fenced yard....

Are you going into the egg business?

Hi Deb

And them , for 200 chickens hen layer

I need a Greenhouse of 2000 squart feet rum...... 64 feet large by 35 feet wide ...it's good

I saw that is one nest box for 4 chicken hen

If I will have 200 chickens ... I need 50 or 60 boxes... it's correct ?

thank you so much Deb

I have another question :

For sleep perches , I will have to use 2" by 2" with 14 inches high to perch to perch ..it's correct ?

thanks, Jorge Happy Christmas

Your pen size is correct, 10 sq ft per chicken at a minimum. Note that even with 2000 sq feet, there will be nothing green left after a couple of weeks. It will be a dirt patch.

As for perches, your profile does not say where you live. 2x2 might be OK for warm climates, but not good if you have freezing temps in winter. Go with 2x4's. with the 4" side up in colder climates. The chickens can rest on the large side and cover their feet completely with their bodies and feathers. A 2x2 perch allows them to grip the perch, but their toes will be more exposed to the cold.

Hi Thomas

thank you so much.

I live in Florida , but I will use 2 by 4 inches for sleep perches..I think that is better.

How many inches for perch to perch ? 14 inches ??

thanks --Jorge

OOps My bad sorry Jorge....

200/4 is 50.... 200/5 is 40 and 200/10 is 20 If you are going into the egg business I would invest in Roll out nests to keep the eggs clean.... Helps keep egg eating and accidental breakage down as well.

You will find they will prefer certain nests over others so the nesting needs will vary.

Hi Deb

For 200 chicken hen layers... yes I'm thinking to put 60 nests...It's better

I don't like the roll up , I prefer to use hay grass , as a nature

thank you Deb
