I have been thinking about raising chicken for almost two years. I come here all the time to do research and get as much information I could before I started my flock. Well I have officially started. I have 5 black australorp hens(I think are more mutts), 1 black australorp rooster, 1 Delaware rooster, 8 lavender orphingtons that are about 1 month old.

They have a Hugh run and a temporary coop, the summer home as I am calling it. Over the course of the next couple of months I will be building them a coop, the chicken castle :p. I just wanted to officially say hello and thank you for all the post that has helped me start in this great hobby. I don't know that I would have pulled the trigger without this website.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on getting your chicken adventures started. Sounds like you have some great plans in the pipeline with your chicken castle. Lovely to hear you have found BYC so helpful in getting started, lots of great info to be had here.

Wishing you the very best of luck in the future. Be sure to ask any questions, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Hope you enjoy it as much as we do?

I have had my chickens for almost 2 weeks. I can sit out in their run for hours just feeding them dried mealworms and scratch fee, and watching them run around. I have a few of the older ones eating out of my hands and even jumping up to get the worms :p. I am hooked and would have 100 birds if I could :p.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. You have three excellent breeds. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and excellent layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks and in getting your coop built.
