My experience has been, that they do not lay eggs for awhile after hatching some eggs and raising chicks.
Thye will lay some eggs, then go broody, set until they hatch, then raise the chicks for a few weeks (forgot how long) and then go back to laying eggs. If they are close to a molt, they will stop laying too, go through their molt, and then start laying again.
