Belated thanks from BYC groupies!
We finally joined after using BYC for over a year doing research for what breeds to get started on for our urban homesteading efforts and for our farm business offering small scale ag products and consultations. "Aven's Avians" is a part of the family business that helps get our son, Aven, get involved in what was a fun family hobby for his dad and a great way to reinvest in our sustainability now. Here's the scoop:
We have 1 D'anvers hen, 2 Ismer Phoenix Hens, 3 Lavendar Laced Orpington hens, 1 Blue Laced Marans Hen, 1 Jersey Giant Hen, and The Captain - a White and Black Splash Orpington Rooster, and more on the way...
We want to develop a breeding flock based on Orps, Marans, Jersey Giants, and Wyandottes, but ultimately happy with a flock of mixed heritage breed birds with with lots of colors of eggs!! Also, a flock of clean legged bantams for smaller farms and urban homesteads.
We were told about Coturnix Quail on BYC and have begun breeding Texas A&M jumbo whites with Golden Italian quails and are very happy with our little but growing flock.
We want to add a couple of geese to our farm flock and are still deciding what we want--probably Africans but maybe Pomeranians or Pilgrims?
For the rest of our family, Tiva is our very patient, careful and protective Lab / Shepherd cross, 'Special Friend' whom is our blind A&M pet quail, and the rest are the humans, Eric, Becky and Aven.
Thanks!
