Hey I'm new to chickens. I have 3 barred rock who are 7 weeks old and 2 easter eggers and 2 silkies who are 3 weeks old. All female or too young to tell in the case of the silkies
I love them. We got them for eggs and my husband went all in for pets.
I built a new coop and one of the roost planks wasn't secured properly. I came out and found it dislodged and one of my barred rocks laying on her side. I palpated her keel and side and found only her patella to be slightly inflamed and hot.
She walks around and eats occasionally but spends all her time otherwise laying on her side. I set her in a bathroom and gave her a solid roost and she's roosting but all puffed up and very down. My husband is making sure she's eating and drinking every few hours.
Disclaimer: I work in wildlife rehab with owls. So I'm pretty familiar with owls and their injuries/general shenanigans I just don't know how well that translates to chickens. The bone setup is on point.
I see posts about little slings... should i make a little sling or leave her alone if she's roosting fine all day.
EDIT: I made a little sling using one of the plans posted. I'm currently printing a little hanger for her water and food bowls. She seems MUCH relieved. I'm going to give her some diluted aspirin per the Vet Merck Manual recommendation. Thank you for everyone's help
