Hi Everyone!

Well I finally gave in to the 'gentle' nudges of my wife (bantybev) that I should get registered here and check out all the nice people, good suggestions, and all around great experience of the website...

So here I am!!

So a little about me... I was born and raised in the country but lived in the city for many years once I grew up and started the whole work & family thing. Kinda back in the country now, meaning that my wife and I live in a kinda subdivision surrounded by country so we get a lot of the good and bad of country and city life.... and cant really do what we would really like... which would be to have our own small 'hobby' farm (more work & less hobby I think, but it'd still be a blast).

So I'm a Field Service Technician for a national retail pharmacy chain ( I fix the registers, computers, printers, etc.) during the day and at night I'm part of a family of a dog, several cats, 3 birds, a turtle, a fish, and a rapidly growing assortment of banty chickens (you knew chickens were gonna be in there somewhere right?) that are quickly taking over the house & yard.

I'll be looking forward to reading all the post's here to reassure myself that I'm perfectly normal in this new 'hobby'

and who knows... I may even eventually tell you all the story of the 13 hour drive that got all of this started!

well... ok, but I'll give you the short version.

My wife has wanted chickens for as long as we've been married (just over 7 years) and apparently she wasnt happy with the decorative (and very much fake) rooster I brought her home from work one day (he's happily gathering dust on a ledge above my computer) so getting chickens was just a matter of time... later rather than sooner was the plan of the day... then fate, and great sadness, intervened.

Every year for the past few years my wife and I have driven her father to visit his sister in Virginia... it's about a 12 hour drive one way and since I drive for work daily and am quite used to it, I drive the whole time both ways. My wife is especialy fond of the banty chickens that were always wandering the yard.

Last October, around halloween, we got word that Aunt Ginny had passed away, and we made a second trip down for the year... She had no relatives there and we needed to make arrangements and such. We left right away and were there for about a week... the last few days spent loading the contents of her house onto a large uhaul truck ... which I then drove back to Michigan in about 13 hours....

Of course my wife decided that she just had to have some of the banty's ... so we bought 2 small cat carriers to transport 5 banty's (3 for us, 2 for her aunt in Indiana)...
oh yes, did I mention she was worried about them being too cold or stressed in the back of the truck?....
so... my wife drove her & her dad in 1 vehicle, I drove the big uhaul...

...with 2 cat carriers (5 banty's) riding on the seat next to me...

just love rooster crows while doing 70 on the toll road.

and that was just the beginning... since then, we've had 3 chicks hatch (1 we had to help out of the shell), bought 9 more, bought 2 more 2 days later, then I lost my sanity and bought her 3 silkies (thats shes been looking for forever), and had 1 sickly chick given to her at tsc...

we've given 3 away, had 1 die, and just had to put the sickly one down... so we're at 18 happy healthy banty's from very young to adult.... and she has a few more on order from a member here.

Oh yeah, and we're hoping to move to a real place in the country sometime this summer... where I'm told we're getting a variety of other animals as well.

hope that was short enough!
