Greetings, fellow backyard chicken owners!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

So glad you decided to join us. Nice introduction! Sounds like you passed chicken math with flying colors from TSC! Your farm sounds lovely!

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our community!
Hello TwoCrows, interesting "handle" you have there (see below). Lol, Ive already learned that chicken math means that every month or two when you count your chickens, voila, you have more! Or you want a couple more and get 10! My excuse is, in case some die or disappear, I'll still have some left...! Or the australorps I hatched from eggs from a breeder, my reason was because I love my australorp roo, plus, the breed was getting rare, and I love their good nature and black color with the green sheen.

When I was a gradeschool girl in IL, in the winter I'd sit in the corner of the living room reading the monthly "Reader's Digest" next to the heat register. At the end of one short story, the author noticed some crows cawing in a nearby tree, and she counted them, thinking... "1 crow sorrow, 2 crow joy, 3 crow's a wedding, 4 crow's a boy, 5 crow silver, 6 crow gold, 7 crow's a secret never to be told..."

Thanks for the welcome!

Chicken math....you can't count eggs in the incubator because they haven't hatched yet. Chicks don't count because they aren't grown. You can't count the roosters because only 1 is crowing right now. Oh and you can't count the broodies because they hide in the nest boxes all day. So yeah, I only have 9 or 10 chickens. :gig

Gotta love those Crows, such intelligent creatures that can recognize multitudes of human faces for over 5 years. They can logically figure out complicated situations in their environment, mourn over the death of flock mates, use tools to access food and have a complicated communication system within their giant flocks that even science hasn't figured out yet. They will alert your flock to soaring hawks, kinds of goodness they are!! Support your local Crows!!
