Hi
I live in a semi rural area of the Pacific Northwest out on the Olympic Peninsula. We have 2-1/2 semi wooded acres, which I love very much.
I have 10 chickens, 8 are about 6 weeks old and 2 "Little's" that are two weeks old.
This is my first "herd" of chickens and so far, I really like it. I have the following breeds:
  • Barnevelder ("Cagney")
  • Welsummer ("Lacey")
  • New Hampshire Red ("Lucy")
  • Swedish Flower ("Ethel")
  • 2 Easter Eggers ("Thelma & Louise")
  • Black Australorp ("Laverne")
  • Buff Orphington ("Shirley")
  • 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes ("Gertrude & Alice B")
I grew up and lived just outside San Diego most all my life. Moving here was quite a change, but so far I love it here.
So far I have discovered that my girls love corn on the cob, blueberries and meal worms. It's been hot enough here lately that they will getting frozen watermelon very soon.
I am growing some red clover and when they get a bit bigger, we'll have a field trip and free range out there.
I'm always interested in tips and tricks and love to gain knowledge from those who have been chickening a while.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow Looks like you've got great little flock there, definitely share pix. We love chicken pictures out here. Again, welcome and glad you joined us:ya

Thanks for all the welcoming messages! I do have a question: I have the water bucket with nipples on it. I have tried to teach them how to use it, but they just don't seem all that interested. I have heard to take all other water sources away so they'll be forced to use it. I'm reluctant to do this, but really want them to use the bucket. Any ideas?

Here's the coop and part of the yard at dusk when the cafe lights go on. I mean, girls gotta have some style, right?
