Thank you so much. Today I found one of my 3 month old hens suffering with a limp. She curls her toes up on one leg and wont put any weight on it. I islolated her to a house with water and feed. Is there something I can give her for pain, she looks very uncomfortable. No signs of and wound. Thanks for any help. I'm new to this cant watch anything suffer.

Common causes of limping in young birds include injury, and paralysis due to Marek's Disease. Was she vaccinated? Is she showing any other symptoms besides the limp? Make sure her pen is not very large and has deep, comfortable bedding; if it is an injury, she needs to rest it. Examine each leg for symmetry and see if you can find any oddities which could indicate a break or dislocation. You might examine one of your healthy birds first so you have an idea of what to look for. Check the bottom of the foot for bumblefoot. For pain and inflammation you can mix (1) 200mg tablet of ibuprofen, crushed, per 2 cups of drinking water (3 cups in hot weather). For now just keep her calm and quiet and monitor her behavior.

Welcome to Backyard chickens dianna!! I hope you enjoy it and the camaraderie here and everybody that goes nuts over chickens (me being one of them....) Have fun! And ask questions! I am a bit confused as to what I have in my flock as my birds are still quite young and Im a newbie. But the Meyer chicks did better than the Stromberg Chicks by far. Yes I do have a Partridge Rock. I am getting all caught up on everything in my life right now, due to having my daughter in laws baby shower yesterday!! FFeewwwwwwww, been busy! Will post more pics of my Flock in the near future.

Thank you so much for your help. I'm so sorry to report she didn't make it. Yes, all my chicks were vaccinated before I received them.
I am just getting caught up from a baby shower I organized for my new grandaughter on the way. So, I apologize for the delayed response.
I did have her by herself, I did not see any wound and did check her leg. I'm thinking the hawk had a go at her before killing a Bantam. She may have something going on inside. She did'nt mind me holding her, I was really shocked to find her not alive in the morning. Not feeling so confident right now. I have 33 3 month old Chickens, 3 dogs, 3 7 month old pigs, 1 huge horse and 1 cat. I take care of myself. And loosing ANY of my animals is devasting to me, so your kind help is greatly appreciated.
 
Thank you. My confidence level is a little low right now. I was SHOCKED, to see how even my skittish ladies rallied around my chair as I cried my eyes out.
Do chickens read human emotions like dogs, horses and my cat do? When I cleared the tears from my eyes to see them ALL at my feet, I had to laugh, it REALLLLLY made me feel comforted.
And I would not feel comfortable speaking of such things to most people, but here I feel it is acceptable. I did feel as though these young birds knew I was deeply upset. I am there only care taker since birth. Or was it just a coincidence?
