Hi, folks! After lurking for ages while mulling over the costs and benefits of the chickenful lifestyle, I've decided to take the plunge at last. Fifteen young ladies of five breeds (three each of Buff Brahmas, Buff Orps, Dominiques, Salmon Faverolles, and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes) will soon be joining my family in early May, courtesy of Meyer Hatchery. My paternal grandfather was a egg man, and my maternal great-grandfather was a farmer, so it's in my genes.

Now, a wee bit about me. I live on just under two acres in a spot-in-the-road town in Upstate NY, about twenty minutes outside of Albany. I have two dogs, five cats, and one husband who built our combination coop/shed so well that our neighbor inquired as to whether it's really for chickens, or actually backup living quarters in case I throw him out of the house.

I'm a community pharmacist, thus the screen name.

I'm happy to be part of this community at last, and look forward to a great experience as a chicken owner and a member of BYC!
