Greetings from Alberta, Canada!

Hi Everyone!

I'm excited to join this new way of meeting new chicken "parents" and learning more about my "chic-kids".
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first got chickens 2 years ago when we moved to our acreage. I had always wanted to have them, and our property came with a coop!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently I have 13 hens, 2 roosters, and 11 five week old chicks :)

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have Rhode Island Red, Black Australorp, Buff Orpington, Lavender Orpington, Amercauna, Easter Egger, Olive Egger and other mixed breeds.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They all have their own personalities and I love spending time with them. The fresh eggs are a definite plus, and I am able to share them with family, friends and co-workers. So much better than store bought, and I raise my chickens organically.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My husband and I started backyard beekeeping as well last year. We now have 2 hives and should get honey off of them for the first time this year. I also love gardening, landscaping, photography, woodworking and travel. I am also a certified Level 2 Reiki Practitioner, and a Gel Nail Technician.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have 2 adult children (a son and daughter) and no grandchildren yet (we have 5 fur grandkids though). I am a Legal Assistant and work for the Provincial Government in the Court system. Besides our chickens, we have 3 dogs and 4 cats! I also used to have donkeys, but they live with my brother in law on his farm now.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found out about BYC when I was searching online for new chicken coop plans. I've known about the site for a couple years, and decided to join to meet other chicken owners and learn more about my birds and how to take care of them (especially when they become ill).
Welcome! Your current life sounds like a paradise! It’s nice to run into another Reiki level 2 person-chicken lover! 🥰
