Welcome to BYC!!(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I an new to chickens for my self.
But while growing up my Granny and Dad had chickens at various times, nothing on going. I do recall the first slaughter with my Granny. ( i was like 7-8 years old) I help ring the neck on a couple, and help pluck feathers with a pot of boiling water, also was when i learned to butcher them for cooking.
No I am 60 years old and got my own chickens at the age of 55...so needless to say I have not been practiced at butchering and not sure I could do that myself these days. I would rather just tend the chickens and gather eggs. I`ll shop for meat at the local meat market or Publix.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Currently I have 5 hens.
I had more but lost a few along the way to a dog massacrer, bought this flock as chicks in 2018, only 1 left.
So in 1019 I got 8 chicks, and had like 3 roosters from that flock. I eventually had taken the grown roosters to our local stock auction and got rid of them. They started tearing up my hens and as I had mention, killed one of the small hens. (She was the only friendly hen i had dang it)
(3) Whatbreedscolors do you have?
I have a black I named Blackie, she is my eldest hen, she is the sole survivor of the 2018 massacrer.
from the 2019 remaining hens I have a white specked color I call Salt and a black speckled I call Pepper and I have 2 tan/brownish color I call each Brownie
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love to see their personalities shine, their activity and habits are funny and so amazing. The attachment they have with me is exciting but they will not let me pick them up or pet them, they will herd me to the food cans, leading the way and love the worms i give them. But run like chickens when i reach for them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to tinker with everything. no real hobby stands out.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I googled for a solution to a rat problem and came across the forum here with some help....which lead me to buy the suggested rat proof feeder today...lol
