If chickens are too crowded, they'll peck at things they shouldn't. I wouldn't want a lot of silicone sealant in my coop for that reason. Have you thought about just putting a standalone roof OVER the coop you plan to renovate? We put one over ours, even though we didn't need another roof, just to provide shade. Our yard is very tree-deficient right now...which has the secondary advantage of no overhanging branches in which predators can hide!

If you do use any caulking you might want to use a latex (less toxic)--my fav is DAP Alex Plus (ran a housepainting business for decades).
