Hi, I'm Susan and have had 5 chickens for about 5 months. 3 were a couple days old and the other 2 were adolescent chickens. They are all outside in a coop with a mister and pans of water (sometimes ice) to stay cool during our hot summer. I had no idea I would fall in love with these creatures! It turns out 1 may be a roo. Hes definately coocke-doodle-doing at sunrise, sundown and during the day too. I'm disappointed as we are not supposed to have roos here.

Welcome to BackYardChickens! So glad to have you here in our wonderful community of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people! Yup, that's a rooster. We had 3 out of the 8 we hatched. The good part is that we ate one yesterday and he was absolutely delicious.
