Good evening, all! I am relatively new to chickens. Our local Rural King had a BOGO deal on chicks in September of last year and I convinced my husband we needed 14. 13 of the 14 made it. Shortly after purchasing the chicks, I saw an advertisement on Facebook marketplace listing a chicken coop that came with mature chickens for sale. So, I convinced my husband we needed another chicken coop and more chickens. We are now the proud owners of 21 hens and 1 rooster.
We have a variety of chicken breeds: Easter Egger, Buff Orpington, Sapphire Gem, Black Australorp, Black Laced Silver Wyandotte, Isa Brown, Speckled Sussex, Ameraucana, and a few others I cannot identify.

I love listening to the sounds they make. I about died laughing the first time I ever heard our rooster crowing. The BOGO chicks were all supposed to be female. I thought "she" looked a little funny for a female. Then "she" started crowing. That explained why she looked different from the others. I also get a kick out of watching their antics. They are just so funny. I also love collecting eggs. It's like Christmas every day. You never know how many eggs you are going to have or what color they are going to be. Every day is a surprise!

I love to read. I enjoy gardening. I'm better at planting things than weeding and maintaining though. I'm addicted to online auctions. I like going to antique and junk shops. Especially when I find a good deal.

I retired last year after working as a registered nurse. I am married (36 years this May). We have one son. We have 10 miniature donkeys, 16 cows (both beef and dairy), 3 Mangalitsa hogs and 14 piglets, 2 rescue dogs, 2 adult German Shepherds, and 5 German Shepherd puppies.

I found out about BYC while doing a Google search. I just learned about BYC today. I decided to join this awesome community because it seems like you all have wealth of knowledge to share :).
