I've been here for a bit but never made it in here to make a "proper" introduction.
I got my very first chickens in April of this year and they just started laying about two weeks ago. They are Black Stars or what the farm store called, "brown egg layers". I like the name "Black Stars" better.
I have 12 of them and let them free-range on our acreage all day long and shut them up at night.
I didn't know that they would bring me so much joy and fun! And so easy to care for! I have learned much by coming here to search for answers. I found out about BYC from a friend of mine (in real life) who comes here frequently and told me I *must* check it out.
I live on 5 acres with my dh and two sons. My two sons (9 & 11) are just loving the chickens too and my dh is warming up to them. I caught him "talking" to them one day. haha
I also enjoy reading, camping, the outdoors, gardening and anything to do with our acreage.
