Hi All
BYC has been a great source of info since my husband and i decided to get some meat birds in the spring. Now that they've been processed (by us - nine birds in three hours!) and we've moved onto egg birds, we figure we should get involved.
So we started with ten white rock, one of which died at about two weeks. The remainder thrived and turned out to be quite delicious. They lived a short but happy life. We now have six egg birds, although I doubt we'll get eggs out of all of them since a couple I bought for their beauty - two Araucanas, one buff Orpington, one barred Plymouth Rock, one Silver Laced Cochin and one white crested grey Polish. I'm still not convinced that the Polish is a hen, but time will tell. None of them are laying yet, but the seller told me the Araucanas are close.
We want to get more meat birds towards the end of summer so will be asking lots of questions about integrating the new birds with those we have now and coming up with a suitable, inexpensive and portable shelter / coop for them.
Looking foreward to getting to know the folks here!
