I don't quite have chickens yet, but I am hoping there is a chicken tractor in my future this weekend (for Mother's Day), and I am trying to gather some basic info. We missed the peeps at TSC this year and are looking for 5 or 6 RIRs for eggs.

I am so excited!! I grew up with 50 chickens (and one rooster, which I hated) and am looking forward to my small flock. They will not be free range (outside of the chicken tractor) because we have two hawk families that live on our five acres, but I hope to build a large covered run as part of the chicken tractor. Today I will be looking around this site for plans.

Advice is always appreciated!

from California. I can tell you are excited about getting chickens. I also cannot let my six hens free range because of critters. They would love to be out of their coop, scratching up my garden but we are very attached to these cluckers and don't want to lose them. Best of luck!
