Hey everyone,

I've been looking on here for awhile and just joined.

Wanting a good mix of chickens that are docile for small children.

I have a coop that is partially done - framed up with roof on.

I had planned to have it finished sometime ago, but had hip replacement surgery a couple of months ago and had complications- my femoral nerve got stretched and I don't have any movement from my quadriceps. Things are beginning to come back and I'm hoping to get started up again next week.

I've been working on an egg hatcher and hoping to have it operational in a couple of weeks (waiting on motor for egg turner).

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. Best of luck in finishing the coop.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best

Welcome!

Sorry to hear about your surgery complications but good news that it sounds like you are on the mend and soon to be back to completing the coop and starting your chicken parenting.

Good luck with it all!

I have a couple of Pekins [bantam Cochins] and I do have to say that they have the sweetest chickenalities and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a friendly breed. However, they are not prolific egg layers and tend to spend most of summer broody

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Greetings from just south of you in Fort Mill. I am a newbie here as well. We did not hatch our girls, but the Easter Bunny brought them last year.

You have sometime before the coop needs to be operational.
