Hello folks, I've been lurking here for several years, and have digested as much information as I could find--which is actually a tremendous amount. I'm not quite there yet, still launching a career, and far from as self-sufficient as I would like to be. But in the mean time, I'm learning everything I can.

I'm a native of Wisconsin, but took a 2-3 year contract on Long Island. Hoping to get back to the Midwest at some point--the pace and the expense on Long Island, I still find to be pretty crazy. Beautiful place, and very cool people. Just really, really expensive and crowded.

Welcome and I live on Long Island and yes very pricey. Plus we like the country more and there isn't much of that here. We are looking to move north one day and we will be doing the self sufficient thing as much as possible.

I've learned so much here about raising our chickens it's unbelievable. Good luck on your venture to self sufficiency when you are back home. Enjoy the rest of your time in NY.
