Ok, so the email to lurkers pulled me out of the corner!
I don't know that I could be considered a 'lurker' since I rarely ever got on to read the forum :)
We have a little farmette (4 acres) with dairy goats, heritage turkeys, a couple of hogs, a couple of steers, a llama, a donkey....cats and a dog, let's see, seems I'm missing something....ohYEAH! CHICKENS!! lol
Currently have about 10 americuanas, 4 silver-laced wynadotts, some banty frizzle cochins, and another 7 or 8 hens that are older and are about done with laying. (black stars, rd island red, mixed, etc)
In the past, we have raised 50-100 meat broilers, but this year I am planning on getting some Black Jersey Giants and Light Brahmans to raise as our meat birds. It will take much longer, but I expect that the wait will be worth it in terms of flavor and quality.
I'll try to check out the forums more :)

This is just a fun place to be! I spend a lot of time reading up on bird things, and on the baking threads.
it would be nice if you would keep us informed on how the meat birds turn out. Some of us think about it, and may need some incentive to go ahead with our ruminations. okay, that would be me. I need to read about other peoples successes before I dive in. You could build my confidence. (It took me 25 years to get chickens for eggs...I may have low self sufficiency esteem.)
welcome to BYC!
