My Coop
My Coop
Hey all!

So I have always wanted to raise my own small flock. I'm fairly new to the chicken world, but I have a bit of knowledge from working at TSC Stores for the past 5 years. I recently decided to move up north to the country and I'm finally going to make my dream come true, so I was recommended this website by a friend.

Once I get settled in up north, my first order of business is building the coop. I had planned on just buying one, but I think a DIY coop sounds like a lot of fun (for now anyways, that may change after I get started lol)

Well anyway, I can't wait to start learning from y'all.

Blessed be chicken friends!

:welcome We are so glad you joined :D and you’ll find lots of information on here about chicken/duck/poultry keeping. The community is fab and everyone is helpful and kind. Can’t wait to hear about your experiences!

Trust me, building the coop and run IS fun and very satisfying to see it come together. It’s even more satisfying when your chickens/ducks go in it for the first time. Feel free to share pics and stories and browse the other forums for more info. DOnt be afraid to ask questions and check out the coop design forum for lots of unique ideas!!

Welcome! Building coops can be quite fun. I remember when I was about thirteen my mother and I built a small coop for our silkie chickens. She allowed me to paint it whatever color I wanted. I chose purple! :) Good luck with your coop and later, your chickens! :)

lol! Thank you!

Welcome to BYC! There’s so many helpful, knowledgeable folks here and I’m sure you’ll find this site a very useful resource. I definitely think it’s a great idea to build your own coop (or as I did convert a “factory seconds” tongue and groove shed from eBay). It’ll be stronger, bigger and much better than the premade coops :thumbsup

Please make your coop much bigger than you think is necessary. It will prevent the need to make additions to the original when Chicken Math strikes you. It will strike and you will want every new breed you come across and more. You will fit in with all the other chicken enabled folks.

Welcome! I'm brand new here too and originally from up north (the Sault ). We had a row of old horse stables on our new property here and have converted one to a chicken coop with a big run out front, even though there was already a smaller pre-made coop on our land. I just think it's so much better for the chickens and for us to have enough space to walk around and be curious together. Have fun building your dream coop and raising your new chickie babies!
