Hi all,

New to the forum :) Not new to critters in general or chickens specifically but it has been a good number of years since I raised any chicks. I am hopefully going to finally be moving to a place where I can have a small flock of dual purpose birds, and I am also wanting to get ducks (which will be a first for me) Self sufficiency is a goal of mine, I will eventually have goats, hair sheep, turkies, and rabbits. It will probably take me several years to put all the pieces in place but I am nothing if not a determined person!

I LOVE Wyandottes. All varieties I have seen (gold, silver, blue laced red) I think they are absolutely beautiful.

I also love a variety of ducks and will probably have a mixed bunch - buff, khaki campbell, blue and black swedish - for eggs and not meat.

To tell you all a bit about myself, my name is Jennifer Marshall. I am a professional dog trainer and breeder of working dogs. Dogs, training, and competing at the highest levels with them is my passion. My life long obsession began in 1996 and has only intensified since then. My dream of being self sufficient mostly includes raising animals to feed my dogs. I am pretty dull unless people love animals, I rarely do anything that does not involve an animal in some way. Even my hobbies, drawing, sculpting, writing, painting, photography, graphic design, are mostly focused around animals lol

Looking forward to reading everything this website has to offer! Excited to raise some chicks again (has been 10 years.. lol) and will be reading everything there is to be read about raising ducklings! I am more excited about the ducklings than the chicks, I think, lol, something new...

Thanks for having me!

Jenn

Welcome to BYC, Jennifer. Glad you decided join our flock. I'm a chicken person, but I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi, and welcome! Glad you joined! New members are always great, and I guarantee this site is great for teaching, learning, or just simply showing off your poultry! I agree with you on Wyandottes, lovely breed!

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone! I may not post very often until time to get my tiny feathered friends draws near, but I will certainly be here lurking about and soaking up all the knowledge... :)

Welcome to BYC, Jenn! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I LOVE your avatar. Is that a bulldog or pit bull? I love how she/he is entwined in the leaves. SO pretty! Dogs are my favorite animal and I used to want to be a trainer and have my own doggy day care.

I also love writing and photography! Some of my favorite hobbies along with dancing.

Sounds like you have nice variety of animals and good luck with all the ones you plan on adding. We have a good section here on BYC about keeping other animals. Here it is if you are interested https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/22/other-pets-livestock

I'm glad you joined us! Look froward to getting to know you and welcome to our flock!

Thanks! That is one of my American Bulldogs :) I do seasonal and holiday themed photos several times a year for fun and to enter various contests, that was from Autumn last year lol
