We're new to the whole backyard chicken life style! We inherited them from a family member who had these chickens since they were chicks. They were moved a couple times before they got to us. Now only 1 of the 8 lays eggs :( Not sure how to motivate them or make them feel comfortable.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your chickens :celebrate Moving them can cause a drop in egg production. Many hens find moving home stressful. They probably need time to settle agin before they resume laying. Also if your birds are going through a molt or starting to molt this too can cause a stop in eggs. Good quality food, clean water and a clean house and they should feel better real soon. You might like to drop by the egg laying section too for further help ~

Wishing you the very best of luck with them in the future. Be sure to ask any questions that you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

I agree with Yorkshire coop...change stresses out chickens but they will soon adapt to their new home. And molting is pretty common this time of year (you'll know what's going on if you see a lot of feathers on the ground and in the coop). Give the girls time and you'll get your eggs.

Thanks for joining us!
