Greetings, everyone! Am gearing up to making the leap from ordinary American citizen to flock owner. This means getting some construction finished, and soon, as I would like to chicken keeping in Spring 2011. So, am reading everything possible (so fun!) on chickens and coops. It's neat to sense my opinion developing on what kind of chickens I want, what style of coop, etc. For example, I never thought I would order chicks, but I may. And I didn't think I would actually RAISE chickens, but I think I may. I'm interested in heritage breeds. I'm also interested in raising live feed for chickens, as well as for the garden and the working animals (dogs and cats). So far, my ideas are centering on worms and fish. Sadly, I can't find much on raising feeder fish in an outdoor pond, so if anyone has any ideas...

Well, I already feel welcome and comfortable with you all, so I'll quit now so I don't talk your ear off.

Can't wait to meet you and your little peepers!

from Leiper's Fork, TN. Glad to hear you are researching and learning BEFORE you get your birds! Lots of pictures and stories to read about different breeds to help you make your decision. Good luck and have fun!
