Hello all! I grew up on a acreage where we had egg laying chickens, and I loved having them as a kid. I don't remember what breeds we had, but they were friendly and loved ranging around the yard. My boyfriend and I just purchased our dream acreage this November, and we just finished building our coop (well, almost. It's too cold to paint and we still need nesting boxes). We have a small flock of barred rocks, ameraucanas, and blue laced red wyandottes, and hopefully adding a few buff orplingtons this afternoon. They're all around 5-6 weeks old, so they're still confined to the coop until it warms up, but we plan to let them free range over our 3.6 acres. The biggest challenge we'll have is teaching the dogs that chickens are not play toys!
