Greetings from Slower Lower Delaware.

Greetings from Slower Lower Delaware, 4 miles from the Maryland line.

I have recently gotten a small backyard flock of chickens after a many year layoff. I first began raising backyard chickens in the early 80's. In the mid 90's we purchased a commercial poultry raising operation so the backyard chickens were a no-no. I then got married and moved into the city (Salisbury) in the mid 90's so no more chickens. We recently moved to a 5 acre parcel just north of Delmar Maryland/Delaware so I am back in the game!

My flock consists of 3 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Golden Comets, 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks, 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes, 2 Gold Laced Wyandottes and 2 Sussexes (after all, we are in Sussex County). They all are between 12 and 15 weeks old and I am happy with them so far.

We built a 8x8x8 A-frame coop out of pine boards, board and batten style to match our horse barn, as well as a 10x10x8 covered run. The cat and the dog aren't too sure about them but everyone else thinks they are great.

I am currently feeding them Nutrena starter feed and I am researching a good layer feed (all girls here). We have a feed supplier near that uses a distributor near our farm and I am looking at their feeds. If anyone has had any dealing with Delmarva Feed in Kennedyville MD, I would appreciate the feedback. We used them for our horse feed for a while but they each need specialized feed that wasn't available with Delmarva Feed. It was good feed but it just didn't fit our crew.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any suggestions as I am kind of rusty with the backyard chicken thing but it came back to me fairly easily so far.
Welcome to BYC!!
