Hello & thanks for the add. I have birdkeeping experience (parrots) but am new to chickens. I will be adding both a coop and pullets this spring. I look forward to help. I have several breeds on mind, and found this forum when trying to find pullets local to me (south central PA). I don’t want to ship, given postal delays. Anyhow, parrot-keeping experience aside, I will need bird-help. I will be picking your brains, if you let me. I’ve also taken some Penn State poultry courses, but the questions always come up after Class is over!

Welcome to BYC! What kinds are you looking for? I may be able to help.
Hahaha ... I’ll admit I don’t really have a short, short list. My first thought was a combination of Buckeyes, Barnfelders & a pullet or two from about 30 other species, including Buff Orpingtons, Brahmas, etc., etc., based on their (advertised) user-friendly qualities for a newbie who just wants 4 to 6 pullets. The first ones need to be calm, forgiving & friendly to stoopid humans. They need to train me ...

I see a lot of mixed breed barnyard chickens advertised who might be my next purchase, but I want to start with pullets of species known to be fairly friendly & unflappable with new-to-chicken personalities like me. (Having said that, a Sultan pullet might have made the list because they are so darned cute).
