Where: Salem County, NJ about 1 hour from Atlantic City. I am in Carneys Point to be exact.
Pack: the cutest toddler ever, 2 rescued retired greyhounds, one hairy hairless chinese crested cancer survivor, one big-boned lazy cat, one fantastic tolerant husband
What me: I work for a magazine publisher in Wilmington, DE (Wed-Fri) rear my toddler and am a volunteer in the greyhound rescue community. I am OCD, only drink Heineken (and prefer it room temp.). My favorite color is orange but somehow only wear black. I have cut and donated my hair to children with cancer and plan to do it again in November. My car is always a mess with dog hair, lip gloss and tote bags. I am a facebook addict.
What DH: Owner/operator of a hardscaping/landscaping business. Spare time is spent as a local high school football coach and being a fantastic father! Comes from a big Italian family, is very old school and can be border line boring? He is also not computer savvy
Why?: As we all stand in the kitchen doing our thing, I open the mail. "Oh look honey, TSC has chick days tomorrow - after church we can help you pick out some cute chicks!" My DH quickly responds that he has always wanted some chickens and guineas......WHAT?!!?! Well, that was all I needed to hear. Off I went, lurking on message boards, reading books and stalking local farm stores. After confirming he was serious, I found a local guy to make me a coop at a very reasonable price. So reasonable when I pick up my coop next week I'll give him a case of beer with my last payment! I took his standard coop and made some modifications. I'll post pictures when it is finished. I plan on jazzing it up myself. I eat about 6-9 boiled whites a day as I am getting into running and prefer a high protein diet. The fact I can help control the bugs, get great fertilizer and support my egg habit makes me VERY excited!!
So, here I am. Coop being custom built and no chicks. Which is where you experienced peeps come in
I'd like input/advice (positive or negative) on my game plan.
I will post my questions accordingly to keep this to my "introduction". I participate in a greyhound message board and know as a moderator that it is appreciated to stick to the topic
I look forward to making some new peeps and getting greyt advice and pointers from y'all. My "city" friends are so excited and can't wait to see my pack grow.
