Good morning chickhan,

It is different! The pace of life is slower, lots of space, but almost impossible to earn a living unless you are a fluent french speaker or a needed trade.
We are retired and manage to live on our pensions despite the decline in the euro. Quality of life for is is great though and lets us have all our animals
 
Ooh La La! Welcome from Oregon, U.S.A. What types are your 120 chickens. Faverolles are my favorite breed & are considered "critically" endangered here by ALBC (American Livestock Breeds Conservancy). Do you raise any? I am raising Bantam Salmon (& Blue Salmon) Faverolles. Would like to see a picture or pictures of your flock, if possible; it's always interesting to see what others in other countries are doing. Have fun on this BYC site, there are some real fun & kind people to share with.

Our menagerie consists of

Copper Black marans - 7 chicks 4 weeks ago
Indian Game Birds 4 chicks hatched 4 weeks ago + approx 20 asstd ages, these are bred for meat - they are slow to mature but have heavy breast - I also have s great cockerel who has done well for us this year and is resting ( Trapper) his brother McIntyre did not perform well so is heading for the freezer in december.
1 Jersey Giant (Buffie) his wife (Marie) and 2 chicks ?
A mad Bantam (Myrtle) who keeps laying and hatching - her last batch crossed with a Dorking (Marvin) laid 15 hatched 14.
Golden Brahma's Mr Pantelon and 2 wives (his father was called trousers and we were given 2 eggs he was one and one wife the other....
Asstd laying birds

3 Chinese Geese (Gus) + Betty and Anni named after my wifes mother and sister!
6 Aylesbury Ducks
10 Runner Ducks
19 Muscovy Ducks
9 Mallards

We have an old hen who no longer lays called HotLips but she was on of the first hens and looks a mess and hops rather than walks.

Did have a beautiful Maran Cockerel (Spearchucker) who had to go as he was loosing all the fights he started with the younger cockerels

We also have 2 cats (Smokey and Bandit)
1 18+ year old Welsh Border Collie - Bryn
3 x 3 year old rescue pups - Harry, Ella and Margot

Also a wife ex nurse and Navy been married for 6 years and lived here for 4 1/2 years

3 Sussex and 7 Cream Leg bars ( wife wants blue eggs to colour co-ordinate with the deep brown eggs from the marans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
