Hi everyone. I'm from Sydney where it's now winter and getting chilly. Since being a chicken owning rookie last October I've been reading this forum and it's great with so many knowledgeable and helpful people.

I know your seasons are reversed from ours (USA) but do you get really cold winters with snow and ice? Boy just writing that made me feel cooler.

depends on which part of Australia you are. Australia is as big as the 48 states but something like 45% is desert. Darwin is up in the tropics while it can get to freezing in Canberra or Tasmania. There's snow in some of the mountains but you wouldn't normally get it at sea level. Night time temperature here in Sydney in winter is about 8-10oC (46-50oF).
I'm actually from Britain so I'm used to all the snow and ice of their long cold winters and a hot summer was 26oc (79oF) not the 40o here (104oF).
