I have always had a fascination with chickens and I plan to own some in the near future. I joined BYC because I want to educate myself as much as possible before I take the plunge. I'm also waiting for fall to get here before I get a coop and chickens. My goal is to have great pets with benefits. Eggs ! There is a lot of planning necessary as I am finding out. I live in the eastern part of Texas, female, retired, and divorced. I love to dabble in arts and crafts. I enjoy NOT working. I'm looking forward to sharing information about my chickens when I get them. In the meantime I will continue reading the posts and will keep learning.

so glad you have joined us. And congrats on your decision to get your own flock.

If you are planning on starting with baby chicks, I would wait til next spring to implement your plans so they can transition outdoors in better weather. But, If you are getting pullets, Fall will be fine. IMO - would not want to miss those early fun days of brooding the babies.

The first place to start is the Learning Center - and then explore the Coops/Runs Forums - get your plans in place to get you ready for the new adventure.

In the meantime you may want to join your state thread. By the time you to get chickens, you may already have some BYC chickener friends.

Hi and welcome to BYC - good luck with your planning and please make yourself at home here with us.

Best wishes
Ct
