My wife and I have almost 2 acres , surrounded by farms. I wanted to learn how to be more self sufficient and grow a garden and raise chickens. The gardening is going well and the layers are too. The latest additions are going to hopefully produce eggs for meat.

I built a small coop thinking 4 birds to start… bought 8 and all are very healthy. Expanded the coop with a run. All 8 are happy in the 4x4x4 coop and the 4x4x10 run. I let the free range almost daily too. They run to me any time I am in the yard. Worm treats…they love them.

I have 8 layers. 2 bard rock, Lilo and Stitch, two black sexlinks, Heckle n Jeckle, three red sexlinks, Thelma and Louise and Henrietta and the boss lady Lucy, a red Sexlink with white feathers.

Our meat birds are Rocky the Bard Rock Rooster and his harem, Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday and Fryday(pun intended). We hope to have these meat bird produce chickens that would be good meat birds. If not they will become egg birds and I will buy meat birds from a hatchery.

I work from home in Technology Management and also enjoy cutting up firewood.

Bar N Ranch is an idea I am working on to set up for retirement.

My meat birds took over my greenhouse for now. I plan on building a larger coop for all the birds this winter.
