Hi

My name is Amanda and my husband and are interested in getting chickens.
My husband just loves the idea of being a farmer I guess and I think that it may be fun.
We're both totally new to this so I'm sure that you'll come across all kinds of questions from me but I'll try to avoid asking to many questions that have already been asked.

Welcome to BYC.... you'll love the info here but beware, it is addicting. Since I've joined I've added several different breeds to my flock. Take a look at some of the pictures of different chickens and then decide what kind you like. There's lots of info, and pictures or links, in this forum. Sharon (Nothern Calif)

welcome to the group. this place is a great way to learn about chickens and make new friends. i have just joined as well. have not been on the list to long but have learned alot already.

we are new to the wrld of chickens too.
we are owned by 6 rhode island reds. and about 13 others that i am in the process of looking up to see what the breeds are. Some one needed to find a home for them all and we went and got them. having a blast. My eggs are really starting to come in lately and love it.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

We want to go for both the eggs and meat but I have to admit that I haven't really looked into what kind of breed would be best for that in combination with our climate.
We have a local place that sells chickens but I haven't gone there yet to see which ones they sell. And otherwise I may see about buying some online.
